Why you need restroom planning

Outdoor & remote venues

Barn weddings, vineyards, farms, backyards, and private estates often have zero or minimal restrooms. Restroom trailers are essential, not optional.

Guest experience

Long lines during cocktail hour frustrate guests. Luxury restroom trailers with flushing toilets, running water, and climate control keep everyone comfortable.

ADA accessibility

If any guest uses a wheelchair or mobility device, you need at least one ADA-compliant restroom with a 60-inch turning space and grab bars.

Wedding restroom trailer types

  • Wide entry door with ramp
  • Non-slip flooring

When to book wedding restroom rentals

  1. 3–6 months before

Book your restroom trailer during peak wedding season (May–October). The best units and Saturday dates fill up fast. Get quotes from 2–3 providers.

  2. 1–2 months before

Confirm delivery and pickup timing with your venue coordinator. Verify water/power connections if needed (many trailers are self-contained with tanks).

  3. 1 week before

Confirm final delivery time, placement location, and attendant arrangements (if using). Review the provider’s arrival checklist.

How many restrooms do I need for a 150-guest wedding?

For a 150-guest dinner reception with alcohol over 4–6 hours, our calculator gives 5 stalls (150 ÷ 40 × 1.2 = 4.5, rounded up), which means a 6-stall restroom trailer. Without alcohol it gives 4 stalls. A cocktail reception with alcohol needs 4 stalls (3 without), and a ceremony-only event needs 2. Vendor charts often suggest less, so treat this as a planning estimate.

What is the rule of thumb for wedding restrooms?

The baseline is 1 restroom stall per 50 guests for a typical 4–6 hour reception. Add 20% for alcohol service, and another 20% if the event runs past 6 hours. Ceremony-only events can stretch to 1 per 100 guests.

Is a restroom trailer better than standard portable units?

For weddings, restroom trailers are strongly preferred: they have flushing toilets, running-water sinks, mirrors, climate control, and upscale finishes that match the event atmosphere. Standard portable units work for casual outdoor weddings on a tight budget.

Do I need an ADA-accessible restroom for my wedding?

If any guest uses a wheelchair or mobility device, plan for at least one accessible unit. Where single-user portable toilets are clustered, §213.2 of the 2010 ADA Standards requires no more than 5% of the units in each cluster to be accessible; our calculator suggests 5%, minimum one, as planning guidance. Accessible toilet rooms need a 60-inch turning space, side and rear grab bars 33–36 inches high, a toilet seat 17–19 inches high, and a sink rim or counter no higher than 34 inches.
